Angie Stone’s Children to Sell Atlanta Home Amid Royalty Dispute & Estate Costs
The children of R&B singer Angie Stone are preparing to sell her Atlanta home for $670,000, citing mounting financial pressures following her death and ongoing difficulties in securing her rightful earnings, according to reports from Eurweb and WBLS.
Stone died on March 1, 2025, in a car crash in Montgomery, Alabama, after performing at a Mardi Gras event. Since her passing, her children, Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer II, have been navigating the complexities of her estate, including unresolved royalty disputes and a pending lawsuit related to the accident.
Weeks before her death, Stone publicly voiced concerns about financial exploitation by Universal Music, alleging that the company had been withholding royalties earned over her four-decade career. “After 40-something years in the business, I’m like, well, where are my royalties going? As I’m not getting them,” Stone said in a video posted online. “Arrive to discover out, Universal Music has been receiving all my royalties, all my mechanicals. They’ve taken pretty much everything. They’ve stolen—well, I won’t say stolen, but they have taken all the monies that were due to me.”
The financial strain extends beyond royalty issues. Stone’s family filed a lawsuit last year against the drivers of the van she was traveling in and a separate tractor-trailer, as well as the companies that own the vehicles. The suit alleges negligence on the part of both drivers and the companies contributed to Stone’s death and injuries sustained by other passengers. The family is seeking compensation for hospital bills, legal fees, and other damages deemed appropriate by the court. As of today, there have been no reported updates regarding the status of the lawsuit.
The Atlanta property, listed for $670,000 according to Zillow, features 5,912 square feet of living space, including five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a four-car garage. The decision to sell the home reflects the financial realities facing Stone’s children as they attempt to manage her estate and address outstanding debts.
According to Hollywood Life, Stone is survived by her daughter, Diamond Stone, from her marriage to Rodney Stone, and her son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, with the late D’Angelo. In a statement, Diamond and Michael described their mother as “an example for black women and girls everywhere,” noting that she “loved and championed” Black men, as evidenced in her song “Brotha.”
The sale of the property is seen as a necessary step to address the financial challenges stemming from the ongoing royalty dispute and the estate’s probate process. Without a consistent income stream from royalties, maintaining the mortgage on the large property has become unsustainable.
