Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Challenges Search Warrants in High Court

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Challenges Search Warrants in High Court

October 5, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has filed a High Court claim in London to challenge search warrants executed at his residences by Thames Valley Police, according to court spokespersons. The legal action sets up a Thursday hearing to determine the lawfulness of searches conducted earlier this year during an investigation into allegations of misconduct in public office.

High Court Hearing Targets Police Search Warrants

The legal challenge focuses on whether Thames Valley Police acted lawfully when searching properties near Windsor Castle and on King Charles III’s Sandringham estate in February. Legal representatives for Mountbatten-Windsor have asked the court to evaluate the validity of the warrants issued during the inquiry. Mountbatten-Windsor has been granted permission to challenge whether the force acted lawfully over the searches. If the court rules in favor of the former prince, evidence gathered during those raids could be barred from any future prosecution, according to attorney Mark Stephens of the Howard Kennedy firm in London. Stephens described the hearing as a preliminary skirmish in the broader legal battle, stating, I think the most important thing to take away from this is it shows that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his lawyers are taking this search warrant and the potential for charges extremely seriously, and adding, And I think that telegraphs that perhaps there’s more of this to come. And perhaps charges will be preferred down the road.

Thames Valley Police confirmed involvement in the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the search warrants. A department spokesperson declined further comment while the High Court reviews the matter.

Arrest and the Wider Epstein Investigation Context

The police investigation became public knowledge following the February arrests. Authorities questioned Mountbatten-Windsor for 11 hours on suspicion of misconduct in public office before releasing him under investigation without formal charges or exoneration. Investigators examined allegations that he shared sensitive information with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy.

The scrutiny stems from millions of pages of documents released by the U.S. Justice Department detailing Epstein’s sex trafficking network and global connections. The fallout prompted King Charles III to strip his younger brother of his princely title last year to distance the monarchy from the controversy. Following the February arrest, the king issued a statement declaring, Let me state clearly: the law must take its course, and adding, As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.
