Mangiapane Likely Headed to Free Agency

Impending Free Agency
According to reports, Andrew Mangiapane, a forward, appears set to become a free agent on July 1st. He recently changed representation and is now with Allain Roy at RSG Hockey, according to reports. This indicates a shift as the player and team prepare for next season.

In the 2024-25 season, Mangiapane averaged 13:02 of ice time per game for the Capitals, scoring 28 points in 81 games. The Washington Capitals currently have only $9.375 million in cap space. The median salary for an NHL player is $3.3 million (CapFriendly).
Looking Back
The Capitals obtained Mangiapane from the Calgary Flames during the previous summer. During his peak season with the Flames in 2021-22, Mangiapane scored 55 points. He did not receive the same level of responsibility with the Capitals.
His upcoming contract is predicted to be a two-year agreement valued at $3.83 million annually. The Capitals might utilize a less expensive player, like Ryan Leonard, to take over Mangiapane’s spot.
The Capitals are also looking to the future, with young prospects like Andrew Cristall, Ivan Miroshnichenko, and Hendrix Lapierre expected to contend for roster spots. Other players are also looking to crack the lineup.
