Andreea Esca Criticizes Meteorological Institutes Following Red Code Alerts
Bucharest and five romanian counties were under a red code weather warning until 3 p.m. Wednesday due to heavy rainfall and strong winds brought by cyclone Barbara, prompting criticism from prominent news anchor Andreea Esca regarding the accuracy of alerts issued by meteorological institutions. Esca expressed frustration over what she perceives as a lack of contextual understanding regarding Romania‘s climate, suggesting alerts were issued as if the contry doesn’t typically experience rainfall.
Esca stated she is awaiting explanations from the institutes responsible for issuing the red code alerts, intending to relay those explanations to citizens who were advised to shelter in place. “The job of the institutions is to know that in Romania, this is ploicic !!!! not to give data and alerts as for a country where the water came from heaven,” she said. She added, “of course, I hope not to meet the apocalyptic scenarios, and I look for excuses, from all the worlds! Esca.”
The National Meteorological administration (ANM) head, Elena Mateescu, confirmed Wednesday morning that the red code warnings remained in effect until the initially scheduled 3 p.m. She reported that Constanța county experienced the highest rainfall volumes and the most challenging conditions due to flooding and strong winds.
The red code warning, issued Tuesday evening at 9 p.m., impacted Bucharest alongside five other counties. Schools were closed in affected areas as a precautionary measure. The situation follows widespread heavy rain, snow, and blizzard warnings across most of the country, expected to continue through Wednesday night.
