Peacock has officially scheduled the debut of Dig, a 10-episode comedy series starring Amy Poehler and Hugh Laurie, for November 23, 2026. Co-run by Mike Schur and J.J. Philbin, the Universal Television production adapts Kate Myers’ bestselling novel Excavations, following a chaotic summer archeological dig in Greece that spirals into an international conspiracy.

Production Background and Literary Adaptation

According to reporting from BroadwayWorld, Amy Poehler reunited with her former Parks and Recreation executive producer Michael Schur to develop the adaptation. Schur and Poehler co-wrote the pilot episode for the project, which is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Additional production backing comes via Fremulon, Paper Kite, Duck Duck Films, Dunshire, 3 Arts, and Ocean Avenue.

Plot Mechanics and Character Dynamics

According to coverage from Bleeding Cool, the narrative focuses on a disparate team of dedicated archaeologists and college students working at a Greek excavation site. The ensemble cast includes Poehler alongside Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas, and Fina Strazza. Hugh Laurie anchors the series as Neville, a British professor who views himself as an elder statesman and mentor to the younger crew while trying to uphold the traditions of a dying profession.

The plot shifts from a standard academic comedy into high-stakes territory when the dig site yields a long-buried artifact. This discovery threatens to rewrite history, thrusting the unprepared group directly into an international conspiracy. Guest appearances across the ten episodes include Kayvan Novak, Jon Pointing, and Bonita Friedericy.

Behind the Scenes and Executive Leadership

The creative leadership behind the camera spans several established comedy and television veterans. Michael Schur and J.J. Philbin serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producing duties are shared by Morgan Sackett, Dean Holland, Kate Arend, and Jordan Grief for Paper Kite, alongside Dave Becky and David Miner for 3 Arts, and Sharon Jackson for Ocean Avenue. Author Kate Myers participates in the production structure as a co-executive producer.

Streaming Strategy and Promotional Rollout

Alongside the premiere date announcement, the platform dropped its first-look image gallery, introducing viewers to the sun-baked Greek landscapes and character dynamics that define the upcoming run.
