New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on September 16, 2025, that the Modi government is fully committed to eliminating the drug menace from India and is actively working towards achieving this objective. Addressing the 2nd National Conference of Heads of anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of States & UTs, Shah emphasized the importance of safeguarding the nation’s youth, calling them the “biggest hope” for a fully developed India by 2047.
Shah highlighted the critical link between national development and combating drug abuse, noting the proximity of major global drug supply regions to india. “This is the time that we fight against it strongly,” he said.
He identified three key types of narcotics cartels – those operating at entry points, those distributing within states, and those running small-scale sales operations – and urged strong action against all three.”The time has come to deal a big blow to these three types of cartels,” Shah stated.
During the conference, Shah also initiated the destruction of seized narcotics valued at ₹4,794 crore. The previous day, September 15, 2025, he affirmed the government’s dedication to eradicating drugs through unified ANTF efforts and released the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) annual report for 2024.
The NCB is collaborating with departments including GST, state drug controllers, Income Tax, and financial institutions to comprehensively map and dismantle drug diversion networks.
