Racing through the hot and humid Chicago streets under the famous elevated ‘L’ train, 27-year-old Skylar Schneider secured her sixth career victory at the Fulton Market Grand Prix. According to event results, Schneider navigated a late tactical battle on the four-corner course, waiting until the final lap to launch her race-winning acceleration up the middle of the road. She finished the 1:07:45 race ahead of USPro criterium champion Kendall Ryan riding for Caldera Medical x Aurea Racing, who closed a late gap to take second place. The victory marks Schneider’s seventh win across nine races during her Chicago GRIT campaign. With this performance, she continues to pad her lead at the top of the elite women’s standings in the six-race American Criterium Cup series. Aline Seitz of HigherDOSE l Renova finished fourth on the day, securing her hold on second place in the overall series standings, while Muñoz sits third and Ryan fourth.

Early in the women’s event, a six-rider breakaway formed to contest intermediate sprint points. Holly Breck of L39ION of Los Angeles proved most active in this group, securing six points to take over the ACC sprint lead, with Marjie Bemis of HigherDOSE l Renova following in second. Caldera Medical x Aurea Racing managed the chase to reel back the breakaway before Chloe Patrick and Laurel Rathbun organized the final leadout.

Bourgoyne Breaks Through in Elite Men’s Race

Lucas Bourgoyne secured his first victory since May 30, when he won the Capitol Cup at the Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic. Winning the Fulton Market Grand Prix in 1:10:28, Bourgoyne reflected on the physical and logistical hurdles of managing his team. “Lately I’ve been really struggling, managing the team, doing the logistics…and I have an incredible team behind me that’s doing double and triple time to make this thing happen. It is these days right here that make all of it worth it,” Bourgoyne told Chicago GRIT organisers after his victory.

The elite men’s race featured an early solo breakaway by Michael Garrison of Speedstudio p/b Basso, who maintained a gap for 20 minutes before a chase group organized with under 10 laps remaining. Cory Williams of L39ION of Los Angeles helped reel in Garrison with less than one lap remaining. Exiting the shadows of the ‘L’, Team Cadence Cyclery pb Waldo Racing established a leadout train for Bourgoyne, who powered across the line several bike lengths ahead of Jim Brown of L39ION of Los Angeles in second. Sebastian Brenes Mata of Good Guys Racing NYC finished third.

Justin Williams finished fourth in the race, wearing the red leader’s jersey for L39ION of Los Angeles. He holds a slim two-point advantage at the top of the elite men’s standings with 108 points, while Bourgoyne sits close behind in second with 106 points. Eighteen-year-old Dylan Haynes of Boulder Junior Cycling finished fifth in Chicago, moving into third place in the overall series standings. The men’s sprint standings remain led by Owen Gillott of Chaney Windows and Doors Big Shark pb Pastaria.

The American Criterium Cup moves to Utah for the Salt Lake Criterium on August 15. The upcoming race will feature a new eight-corner course in downtown Salt Lake City, setting up a crucial battle for the leader’s jerseys as the six-race series enters its final stretch.
