The racetrack, which continued to host racing events periodically after ceasing full-time operations, permanently closed its doors in 2015. The closure was attributed to a sustained downturn in the industry,the prevailing regional economic conditions,and a lack of alternative revenue streams.
Amazon’s interest in this site emerges as other former New Jersey racetracks are being considered for redevelopment. Notably, a developer recently acquired the now-closed Freehold Raceway in Monmouth County, with plans to redevelop the 58-acre property into a retail complex.
