Alpine Skiing World Cup: Shiffrin & Odermatt Battle in Lillehammer – TV & Schedule

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Lillehammer, Norway – The FIS Alpine World Cup Finals are underway in Lillehammer, with the men’s giant slalom kicking off Tuesday morning and the women’s slalom scheduled for later in the day. Even as Italy’s Sofia Goggia and Laura Pirovano have already secured the super-G and downhill globes respectively, the battle for the overall World Cup title remains fiercely contested between American Mikaela Shiffrin and Germany’s Emma Aicher.

Shiffrin, aiming for her sixth overall crystal globe, holds a 45-point lead over Aicher following Sunday’s super-G results, where Aicher finished fourth. The German’s performance trimmed Shiffrin’s advantage, but the American remains the favorite in the slalom, a discipline where she traditionally excels. However, Aicher is expected to be stronger in the giant slalom, creating a high-stakes scenario as the season draws to a close.

“It doesn’t help me when I start thinking about those points. I have to ski well. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t,” Aicher told the Associated Press. “I have done so much right this year already that the rest will only be a bonus.”

Italy will be represented in the men’s giant slalom by Alex Vinatzer and Giovanni Franzoni. Vinatzer, who hasn’t placed within the top ten in a giant slalom since January 13, 2025, will be looking to finish the season strongly. Franzoni will be competing after recently concluding his commitments in speed events.

The men’s giant slalom will be a three-way contest at the top, with Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt currently leading the standings with 495 points, followed by Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (447 points) and Loic Meillard (406 points).

On the women’s side, Lara Della Mea and Anna Trocker will represent Italy in the slalom. Martina Peterlini had qualified for the finals but was unable to participate due to a physical condition.

The men’s giant slalom is scheduled to commence at 9:30 AM local time with the first run, followed by the second run at 12:30 PM. The women’s slalom will commence at 10:30 AM with the first run and the second run is slated for 1:30 PM. RaiSport will broadcast both runs of the women’s slalom, and coverage will also be available via streaming on RaiPlay, Eurosport 1, Discovery+, SkyGO, NOW, and DAZN.
