Alistair Docherty secured his first Korn Ferry Tour title and qualified for the 2026 Open Championship with a dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole of the 119 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro on Sunday.
Docherty, 31, finished with a final-round 5-under 65, closing with a bogey-free 3-under 33 on the back nine, to earn a one-stroke victory over Chris Korte, and S.Y. Noh. His winning score of 22-under par was enough to secure his place in the field for The Open Qualifying Series event.
The victory marks the third time this season on the Korn Ferry Tour that a player has made birdie or eagle on the 72nd hole to win in regulation. Ian Holt achieved the feat at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, while James Nicholas won the Astara Golf Championship with an eagle on the final hole.
Docherty’s win moves him to No. 2 on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour points list. He previously finished T2 at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, his only other made cut in five starts this season. He has competed in the Visa Argentina Open three times, finishing T16 in 2024 and missing the cut in 2025.
Here’s Docherty’s fourth consecutive season on the Korn Ferry Tour. He finished No. 86 on the points list in 2023, No. 32 in 2024, and No. 50 in 2025. He narrowly missed earning PGA TOUR membership at the complete of the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour season and was one stroke shy of qualifying through the 2024 PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
Chris Korte closed with a 9-under 61, the lowest round of the tournament, to finish in a tie for second. PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour winner S.Y. Noh also finished tied for second, marking his first top-three finish on the Korn Ferry Tour since winning the 2013 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.
Korn Ferry Tour graduate Taylor Montgomery finished in a tie for fourth, logging his second consecutive top-10 finish after a T7 at The Panama Championship. Shad Tuten also finished T4, recording his highest finish on the Korn Ferry Tour since a T3 at the 2025 Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya.
Argentinian amateur Segundo Oliva Pinto recorded the first top-10 finish by an amateur in a Korn Ferry Tour event since Cole Anderson finished T3 at the 2022 Live and Work in Maine Open, finishing in a tie for seventh.
Ian Gilligan and Hunter Eichhorn each recorded their Tour-leading third top-10 finish of the season, tying for ninth place.
