Ålesund House Fire: Two Hospitalized, Blaze Extinguished
A house in Ålesund, Norway, was fully engulfed in flames Tuesday evening, prompting a response from local authorities and fire crews. Police in Møre og Romsdal reported the fire at approximately 9:00 PM local time.
Initial reports described a complete fire takeover of the structure, with significant smoke visible from the scene. As of 9:00 PM, firefighters were still battling the blaze and had not yet gained control, according to police statements.
Two residents were transported to a hospital for treatment after inhaling smoke, authorities confirmed. Their condition is currently unknown.
By 11:05 PM, the fire was extinguished, though emergency personnel remained at the location to monitor for any remaining hotspots. Police indicated they would maintain a presence throughout the night.
Throughout the evening, police assessed the need for potential evacuations of neighboring homes. As of 7:53 PM, however, authorities stated there was no immediate danger requiring the evacuation of nearby residences. They also confirmed at 7:53 PM that the fire was not spreading.
The fire department responded with nine vehicles, according to Steffen Leganger, the on-duty leader at the Møre og Romsdal 110-central. “Perform is progressing well, to place it that way,” Leganger told Nettavisen. “Sludge work is underway both from the inside, and outside.”
All available personnel from the main fire station and the Spjelkavik fire station were dispatched to the scene. Leganger added that efforts were focused on salvaging any portion of the building that remained intact. Additional resources were also called in to ensure continued emergency preparedness and public safety.
As of Wednesday morning, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Investigations are expected to commence once the site is deemed safe.
