Aleksei Batrakov Leads Galatasaray Scoring in Champions League
Midfielder Aleksei Batrakov has emerged as Galatasaray’s leading scorer in the current UEFA Champions League campaign, netting crucial headers against Barcelona and Lille despite standing just 168 centimeters tall.
Batrakov Scores Against Lille and Barcelona
Batrakov has recorded two goals and two assists across his last six matches in all competitions. His most recent strike came during a 4-2 victory over Lille, where he exploited a massive open space at the near post created by striker Victor Osimhen dragging opposing defenders away. Roland Sallai drove down the flank before delivering the service that allowed Batrakov to head the ball home and level the score at 2-2.
This follows a similar sequence against Barcelona, where Batrakov collected a pass near the edge of the penalty area and sent a first-touch shot past Joan Garcia. Both goals served as turning points in matches where Galatasaray secured vital points in the European group stage. Overall, the Russian midfielder leads the Turkish club’s scoring charts in the Champions League, outpacing high-profile teammates.
Low Defensive Metrics Highlight Physical Demands
Despite his offensive output, underlying performance metrics highlight the physical demands of adjusting to European competition. Following the fixture against Lille, Flashscore awarded Batrakov a 7.0 rating, while Sofascore graded him at 6.9. These modest figures reflect his defensive output, as he won only two out of eight contested duels on the pitch. Sourced analysis indicates that the midfielder has not yet accumulated sufficient physical mass to consistently assist his team in defensive assignments, spending significant portions of matches adapting to the defensive tempo after arriving from the Russian Premier League.
Fan Reception and Recognition
Supporters have responded to the midfielder’s performances with widespread acclaim across official club channels. Following the match against Lille, club followers circulated digital artwork depicting Batrakov leading historical imagery alongside club iconography. Comments left on official publications praised his integration into a squad that features global stars such as Leroy Sane, Rafael Leao, and Ilkay Gundogan, marking a notable early chapter in his European career.
