Aldo Gallegos Leads Las Cruces Rushing Attack Against Artesia

August 25, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Building Rhythm Through the Final Stretch

The Melbourne club has secured a two-two spot heading into the closing weeks of the regular season. Despite coach Craig Bellamy weighing potential player rests ahead of upcoming trips to Queensland, Papenhuyzen stated his intention to play through all remaining matches. Sidelined for nearly two months through the middle of the season due to a leg injury, the fullback emphasized that consecutive appearances remain vital for regaining competitive timing.

Having featured in only 15 matches across the previous two seasons due to ongoing injury hurdles, Papenhuyzen dismissed the notion of sitting out games for preservation. “I know I’m definitely not taking a break if I don’t have anything wrong with me,” Papenhuyzen told Yahoo Sports, pointing to his desire to build a consistent rhythm ahead of the playoffs.

Locking Down the Spine Dynamics

The recent success stems directly from the on-field cohesion of Melbourne’s core playmakers. Cameron Munster, Jahrome Hughes, captain and hooker Harry Grant, and Papenhuyzen have completed four consecutive games together since Munster returned from a hip injury. That stretch includes three victories, punctuated by a definitive win against premiership rivals Penrith on their home turf.

Statistical indicators underline the potency of the combination. The quartet has played 16 matches together overall, securing 14 victories according to team figures cited by Papenhuyzen. Recent fortnight discussions among the playmakers focused on establishing clear structures to balance ball-dominant phases and integrate the forward pack effectively.

“We had a few discussions the past fortnight about how we can best play to our abilities and weave in and out of games, so I think we’ve sort of marked that off now and got a bit of a structure around it,” Papenhuyzen noted regarding the tactical adjustments.

Preparation for the Final Home Match

The Storm face the Dolphins at AAMI Park in their final regular-season home fixture before navigating away fixtures. While contract discussions regarding Papenhuyzen’s future remain unfinalized, the player stressed that internal focus rests entirely on executing team patterns and maintaining momentum.
