A family whose child’s wish was granted by Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington spent the weekend experiencing a winter wonderland in Alaska, according to a statement released Sunday.
Macie, a four-year-old battling congenital heart disease, wished for a treehouse, a desire the organization worked to fulfill. While details of the treehouse itself were not immediately available, the family’s trip to Alaska, culminating on March 1, 2026, was facilitated by the chapter. The organization stated the experience aimed to provide a respite from the challenges of Macie’s illness and strengthen family bonds.
Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington has seen increased demand for wish fulfillment in recent years. According to data released by the organization, more than 500 children across Alaska and Washington are currently awaiting their wishes. This represents a 30% increase anticipated over the previous year, attributed to population growth and expanded outreach efforts in rural communities and hospitals. The organization aims to grant every wish on its waiting list, relying on donations and volunteer support.
The chapter raises funds through corporate sponsorships, special events, foundation grants, and individual contributions. Upcoming events include Make-A-Wish Night at T-Mobile Park, airline mileage drives, and a trivia night in Seattle. A Wish Night Gala & Auction is also planned. The organization’s current fundraising goal is $3,000, with $1,800 already raised by 15 donors as of today.
Trina Cottingham was recently named the chapter’s next President & CEO. Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington operates as a regional branch of the national Make-A-Wish Foundation, which exists to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy for children facing life-threatening illnesses. The local chapter serves Alaska, Montana, Northern Idaho, and Washington.
