Al-Ahly Club Confirms Participation in Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong
Al-Ahly Club has officially accepted an invitation to compete in the Saudi Super Cup for the 2025-2026 season, scheduled to take place in Hong kong from August 19th to 23rd. The decision, announced via the club’s X platform, follows a thorough review of the team’s objectives and preparation schedule for the upcoming season.
The club’s participation is a continuation of their performance last season, where they secured fifth place in the league standings. This tournament serves as a crucial competitive opportunity for Al-Ahly ahead of the new domestic season’s competitions. The saudi Football Association extended the invitation based on the competition’s regulatory framework.
The Saudi Super Cup’s move to Hong kong is part of an agreement between the Saudi Football Federation’s exclusive commercial partner and the SMC group wiht SUMKM Sport. This year’s tournament will feature a direct penalty shootout if matches end in a draw, bypassing extra time.
Al-Ahly concluded the previous league season in fifth position with 67 points. The other participating team mentioned is Al-Hilal,who recently competed in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. Al-Qadisiyah will also feature in the Super Cup for the first time, having qualified as the King’s Cup winner.
The article also notes a discrepancy regarding player leave days. It states that a reduction in annual player leave to 24 days for non-participation in the Super Cup and 21 days for participation occurred, which reportedly contradicts paragraph (5.6) of the mandatory contracts outlined in the appendices of the professional list and player conditions issued by the Saudi Football Association.
