Oslo, Norway – August 3, 2025Airbnb rentals in Norway have surged in recent years, with listings more than doubling between june 2022 and June 2025, according to data from analysis firm Capia obtained by NRK. This growth coincides with a notable increase in revenue, exceeding NOK 4 billion in 2025 alone.

Recent disputes over property damage highlight the challenges faced by both landlords and renters utilizing the platform.In one case, Airbnb denied a landlord’s compensation claim due to insufficient photographic evidence of the damage.

The Rise of Short-Term Rentals in Norway

Airbnb reported global revenues of NOK 23.5 billion in the first quarter of 2025, demonstrating the platform’s continued financial strength. The Norwegian market represents a considerable portion of this growth.

capia’s data reveals a dramatic increase in available properties. In June 2022,Norway hosted 58,737 Airbnb listings. By June 2025, this number had climbed to 122,628 – a 108.7% increase.

The increased activity translates directly into economic impact. Total revenue generated through Airbnb rentals in Norway exceeded NOK 4 billion in 2025.

This growth has sparked debate regarding the impact on local housing markets and the need for clearer regulations governing short-term rentals. Municipalities like Bergen and Oslo are currently reviewing their policies to address concerns about the availability of long-term housing and potential tax evasion.

The Norwegian Tax Administration has also increased its scrutiny of Airbnb income, issuing guidance to hosts on their tax obligations. Failure to report rental income can result in penalties and legal repercussions.
