Air Canada Flight AC8646: Harrowing Photos & Rudy Giuliani Reacts
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani posted images on X, formerly Twitter, depicting the aftermath of Air Canada Express Flight AC8646, a Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft, on Tuesday. The post, labeled “MUST Witness PHOTOS,” featured what Giuliani described as “harrowing photos” of the incident.
The images shared by Giuliani appear to document damage to the aircraft. Details surrounding the event itself remain limited.
Giuliani’s post comes more than six years after an incident at Newark airport in May 2017, where his bags were searched by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). According to a report from Jezebel, Giuliani’s luggage was “torn apart” after TSA agents discovered two cigar cutters and a lighter. TSA regulations prohibit cigar cutters in carry-on luggage.
The 2017 incident drew attention given Giuliani’s prominent role following the September 11th attacks, where he oversaw New York City’s recovery. The Jezebel report noted the irony of a former mayor who experienced the devastation caused by smuggled items on aircraft attempting to carry prohibited items onto a flight himself.
As of Tuesday evening, neither Air Canada nor Bombardier have issued public statements regarding the AC8646 incident. Giuliani has not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the photos he shared.
