Valmiera Mourns the Loss of Silvija Skaidrīte Ašaka, Mother of Actor Ainars Ašaks
Valmiera, latvia – Actor Ainars Ašaks announced today the passing of his mother, Silvija Skaidrīte Ašaka (née Mize), at the age of 96. Born in Murmuiža, Kauguri Parish, valmiera County, she passed away after a long life marked by resilience through decades of Latvian history.
Silvija Ašaka witnessed and lived through significant periods of Latvian history, including the Soviet and German occupations. She received her early education at Kauguri Elementary School, continuing at the Valmiera Commercial Technique. She dedicated many years to the valmiera furniture factory as a salary normator and later worked in the administration of the Valmiera Social Insurance Department until her retirement. She married and had a daughter, Daina Ašaka, in 1961.
Ašaka experienced eight major surgeries and a clinical death, continuing to live a full life despite significant health challenges. She actively followed current events in Latvia and the world, enjoying crossword puzzles and maintaining connections with neighbors and former colleagues. Her 95th birthday was celebrated on June 28, 2023, with her granddaughter Patricia and friends.
She is survived by her son, Ainars Ašaks, and granddaughter, patricia.
