Agropole Centre and CNAAS Launch Agricultural Insurance Training in Senegal
L’Agropole Centre and the Compagnie nationale d’assurance agricole du Sénégal (CNAAS) launched a targeted training initiative in Fatick on August 21, 2026, to educate forty leaders of peasant organizations on agricultural insurance. The program aims to secure production, income, and infrastructure across Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine, and Kaolack regions.
Strategic Risk Mitigation for Central Senegal
The partnership between L’Agropole Centre and CNAAS focuses on the stabilization of the agricultural supply chain in Senegal’s central corridor. According to CNAAS Director General Oumar Cissé Sow, the initiative serves as an extension of a three-year operational model previously deployed with Agropole Sud. The framework is designed to develop specialized insurance products tailored to specific priority value chains, including peanuts, dry cereals such as millet, maize, and sorghum, and salt production.
The financial backing for this expansion is provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB), which has committed 190 million francs CFA to the implementation of this three-year convention.
Operationalizing Agro-Industrial Growth
Bassirou Mané, interim coordinator for L’Agropole Centre, emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader government strategy overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The core objective is to establish a robust agro-industrial fabric capable of domestic processing.
This legal infrastructure is essential for maintaining the creditworthiness required to secure further project financing from institutions like the Islamic Development Bank, which, alongside the AfDB, supports the Agropole infrastructure.
Market Trajectory and Institutional Integration
The success of the 190-million-franc CFA injection will ultimately be measured by the adoption rate of these insurance products among the farmers in Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine, and Kaolack.
