Agen Brocante: Antique & Vintage Finds at Cornières Market
Agen, France – A vibrant brocante, or flea market, drew crowds to the historic center of Agen this Saturday, offering a diverse array of antiques, collectibles, and vintage items. Twenty-five specialized vendors participated in the event, known as the Brocante des Cornières, transforming the area into a haven for bargain hunters and history enthusiasts.
The market, organized by the association Parvis Événement, featured items spanning centuries, from 18th-century artifacts to pieces from the 1960s. Offerings included art objects, small furniture, interior decorations, paintings, antique toys, glassware, vintage linens, books, and comic strips. The pleasant, almost spring-like weather contributed to the event’s success, attracting a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.
Among the unique finds was a collection of vintage stamps from local schools and institutions, offered by Sophie Martinez of Sophie Martinez Antiquités / Brocante de Roquefort. These stamps, bearing the names of institutions like the Collège de jeunes filles Joseph Chaumié, Lycée d’État, and various school departments, offered a glimpse into the region’s educational history. “When you buy these objects, you buy the object, but too the fragment of history that it represents,” Martinez explained, noting that even everyday items carry a story of past use and care.
The Brocante des Cornières also featured a special guest: Maitre Annabelle Safores, a local auctioneer, who offered free appraisals of up to two items per person between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, including evaluations based on photographs. This addition proved popular with attendees hoping to discover the value of their own treasured possessions.
The market wasn’t just about high-value antiques. Vendors also showcased more modest, everyday objects – kitchen utensils, tools, and other items that once played a functional role in daily life. These pieces, now repurposed as decorative elements, offered a tangible connection to past generations. The event provided a space for exchange and discovery, allowing both vendors and visitors to share their passion for unique and historically significant objects.
