Bayonne Targeting Provençal Winger Adrien Lapègue
Bayonne Aviron is pursuing Provence Rugby winger Adrien Lapègue, 26, with discussions already underway regarding a potential move at the end of the current season. The Top 14 club views Lapègue as a key target to bolster their squad ahead of next year’s campaign.
Lapègue began his professional career with Bayonne in 2018 before spending four years at Stade Français Paris adn subsequently joining Provence Rugby in 2022. He has quickly established himself as a standout performer in the south-east of France, notably scoring 20 tries last season. His current contract with Provence expires next June, prompting Bayonne to express strong interest in bringing the winger back to his roots. The potential move aligns with Bayonne’s strategy of re-acquiring former players. Beyond the sporting benefits, a deal would allow Lapègue to reunite with his younger brother, Gabriel, 20, who currently trains with Bayonne’s professional squad. A first meeting between representatives of both clubs has already taken place, and negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage. Lapègue is said to be keen on returning to Top 14 competition.
