Anouk Grinberg Accuses Gérard Depardieu‘s Lawyer of Victim Blaming, Files Ethics Complaint
Paris – Actress Anouk grinberg has filed a formal complaint with the Paris Bar Association alleging that Gérard Depardieu’s counsel engaged in unethical and damaging behavior during recent court proceedings. Grinberg asserts the lawyer’s defense tactics mirrored those of sexual aggressors, shifting blame onto the alleged victims.
The complaint centers on the lawyer’s conduct during hearings related to accusations against Depardieu. Grinberg stated, “He degrades me, but also the profession of defense attorney… What he does is similar to what sexual attackers do: he makes the victims the perpetrators and turns the situation around.” The actress believes the lawyer’s actions undermine the integrity of the legal profession and inflict further harm on those who have come forward with allegations. This case arrives amid heightened scrutiny of how sexual assault allegations are handled within the French legal system and the role defense strategies play in possibly re-traumatizing plaintiffs.
The Paris Bar Association has already initiated a preliminary ethical examination following two complaints - one from Grinberg and another from her lawyer, Ms.e Carine Durrieu Diebolt. This initial phase involves hearing from all parties involved. Potential outcomes range from a simple reminder of ethical obligations to formal disciplinary proceedings against Depardieu’s counsel. The investigation’s findings could set a precedent for acceptable defense strategies in similar cases and influence the Bar Association’s approach to protecting both the rights of the accused and the well-being of accusers.
