Actor Fredrik Hallgren joins Swedish Home Guard, Expressen reports
Actor Fredrik Hallgren, known for his work in the SVT series Bonusfamiljen, has completed a six-week training program to become a Home Guard soldier, Expressen reported on October 5, 2026.
From the Stage to Bomb Shelter Maintenance
The 52-year-old actor has added another distinct role to his resume following a career shift earlier in the year when a lack of acting jobs forced him to take on work as a bomb shelter technician. After spending nearly four months at home, Hallgren told Expressen earlier in 2026 that he felt an urgent need to take action because it felt like his entire body was itching for work.
Six Weeks of Intensive Military Instruction
Now, the actor has shifted directions again by completing the Swedish Armed Forces basic military training known as FMU. Hallgren documented the transition on Instagram, addressing followers who wondered about his absence with a joke about whether he had vanished or passed away. The reality, he explained, involved six weeks of intensive military instruction.
Motivations and Guarded Hopes for Peace
Writing about the motivation behind the decision, the Bonusfamiljen star stated that he appreciates life in Sweden and wants to be able to defend the country’s freedom and privileges if necessary. While noting that the physical training was difficult, Hallgren added that he gained new friends and some muscle in the process, though he hopes he never has to shoot at anyone or be shot at.
Preparing to Return as Martin in Bonusfamiljen
The military training coincides with active preparations for the screen. Earlier in 2026, production confirmation arrived regarding an upcoming additional season of Bonusfamiljen. Hallgren expressed enthusiasm for returning to his role as Martin, describing the character as both terribly annoying and enjoyable to play while anticipating plenty of entertaining storylines in the new episodes.
