Activision sets Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release for Oct 23, per IGN Spain

Activision has scheduled the worldwide release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for October 23, 2026, rolling out the title across multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to an announcement detailed by IGN Spain. The developer Infinity Ward sets the global PC launch for 00:00 local time on October 23, meaning the game unlocks at midnight regardless of country.

Digital Preorders Offer Early Campaign and DMZ Access

Digital preorders for both the Standard Edition priced at 79.99 euros and the Vault Edition at 109.99 euros include early access to the campaign beginning October 16, 2026. HobbyConsolas reported that players purchasing physical copies of the Standard Edition receive no campaign early access and cannot upgrade to the Vault tier.

In addition to the single-player campaign, digital preorder holders gain access to the DMZ mode on October 20. Clavecd.es noted that this player-versus-player-versus-environment mode features a dedicated progression system spanning levels 1 through 70 on the new Hajin map, operating out of a central Forward Operating Base without free-to-play availability. Jeu.video confirmed that if an operator dies during a deployment, they become missing in action and require in-game currency at the operator station to recover their traits, though they return without equipment.

PS5 Version Lacks Platinum Trophy and Uses HQ App

PlayStation 5 players encounter a total of 18 campaign trophies comprising 8 gold and 10 silver, without a platinum trophy or separate trophy lists for multiplayer and DMZ. HobbyConsolas reported that because Activision integrates the title into the central Call of Duty HQ application rather than treating it as an independent standalone release, it follows the precedent set by recent franchise entries on Sony’s hardware.

The campaign alone consumes 42.17 GB on PlayStation 5, while the full game requires 115 GB of free SSD storage on PC alongside minimum hardware specifications featuring an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 470 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card.

Simulated Korean War Plot Draws South Korean Scrutiny

Infinity Ward centers the campaign’s plot around a simulated “Second Korean War,” following a fictional military escalation between North and South Korea with urban combat missions set in Seoul, alongside deployments to Bombay, New York, Paris, and Russia. Diario Socialista reported that the narrative introduces a South Korean frontline recruit named Park alongside Captain John Price, utilizing the Korean character 사 (sa) to replace the number four in global branding.

The fictionalized conflict in an armistice-bound peninsula drew scrutiny from academic and cultural commentators in South Korea regarding the commercialization of an active geopolitical division, while Infinity Ward stated that the production relied on dialect coaches, cultural consultants, and military veterans to maintain authenticity.
