UNI‘s Hybrid Accounting Program Sees Rapid Enrollment Increase
CEDAR FALLS,Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa’s hybrid accounting program has experienced substantial growth since it’s launch in 2023,jumping from an initial cohort of seven students to 60. The program is designed to provide a flexible pathway to a bachelor’s degree in accounting for working professionals and returning students.
this expansion addresses a growing need for accessible higher education options for individuals already in the workforce or holding associate degrees. The hybrid model combines the convenience of online coursework with the focused learning environment of in-person evening classes held at the Des Moines Area Community College urban campus. This structure allows students to balance their existing commitments while pursuing academic advancement.
UNI’s accounting department head, Joe Ugrin, highlighted the quality of incoming students, stating, “The caliber of students we have incoming is amazing.” The program is specifically structured to seamlessly accept transfer credits from Associate of Arts degrees from any Iowa community college, and also many Associate of Applied Science degrees.
Moreover, the program offers a convenient and affordable opportunity for UNI Wilson College of Business alumni to add an accounting degree to their credentials. The university reports the program’s design minimizes both time and financial investment for these students.
