Accessory – This Is Not Your Life (Static): New Song & Album Details
Jason Balla, performing as Accessory, will release his debut album, Dust, on April 17th via ACX, following a series of well-received singles including “Calcium” and “Safeword.” The latest offering, “This Is Not Your Life (Static),” released March 24th, explores themes of vulnerability and shifting dynamics within relationships.
Balla described the song as an attempt to capture “that feeling of that moment in love when you cease to be the central figure in your own story.” He further explained that the track delves into “vulnerability and commitment and the beauty of submission. It’s life in the service of something beyond.” However, Balla noted the song’s trajectory shifts, “sliding into the realm of obsessive regret, depression and the lasting grip of intimacy now past.”
The album, Dust, features eleven tracks: “Other World,” “World of Pain,” “Angelfire,” “Wherever You Are Tonight,” “Calcium,” “Safeword,” “This Is Not Your Life (Static),” “Dogbite,” “Sunshine,” “Blood (Magnetic),” and “Lightning.” Both standard black vinyl and a limited edition calcium swirl vinyl pressing are available for pre-order through Bandcamp, with the vinyl editions including a lyric insert and a digital pre-order of the album. The vinyl is being pressed in Chicago at Smashed Plastic.
Stereogum recently highlighted “Calcium” as one of the best songs of the week, while acknowledging the strength of previous singles like “Safeword.” The album is available for pre-order and streaming via Bandcamp, with purchasers receiving three tracks immediately and the full album upon its April 17th release.
