AC Milan and Inter Unveil Generali Stadium Plans
AC Milan and Inter unveiled plans for a new €1.2 billion Generali Stadium on October 29, 2026, at Milan’s Castello Sforzesco, aiming to replace the historic San Siro by the 2031-32 season, The Guardian reported.
Generali Stadium Will Seat 71,500 Fans
The shared venue will feature a 71,500-seat capacity across two tiers. Architect Norman Foster designed the stadium to be low in the body while rising up behind the goals. David Manica, a stadium specialist collaborating on the project, stated that the steep-sided design places fans as close to the pitch as possible. According to The Guardian, the clubs paid €197 million to acquire the current San Siro and its adjacent parking areas. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028 on the site of the existing 75,000-capacity ground, which will be largely demolished once the new arena nears completion.
Inter Fans Protest San Siro Demolition
Shortly before the briefing began at Castello Sforzesco, a group of Inter fans walked into the courtyard, unfurled a banner reading “you will never extinguish the lights at San Siro,” and chanted “hands off San Siro,” The Guardian reported. Opened in 1926 and also known as the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, San Siro stands as Italy’s largest sports venue and a symbol of European football history. Despite prior renovations, the iconic structure requires extensive modernization.

New Arena Will Host Concerts and NFL
The Generali Stadium design incorporates an oval form framed by 80 diamond shapes and a sweeping double-curved roof, reaching 60 meters at the ends behind the goals, as reported by the Associated Press. The venue will sit on a podium containing parking, a club store, and a museum across a 281,000-square-meter project area. Beyond football, the arena will host concerts, rugby matches, and NFL international fixtures. Organizers also position the venue as a potential host site for Euro 2032, which Italy and Turkey will jointly host.
