AC/DC Toronto Concert Cancelled Due to Storm Damage at Rogers Stadium

Live Nation Canada announced automatic refunds via Ticketmaster, stating that engineering assessments require major rebuilding before the 50,000-capacity site can safely reopen next summer.
Rogers Stadium Damage Forces Cancellation of Final Summer Show
The second season of Toronto’s Rogers Stadium has come to an abrupt and early close. According to an Instagram announcement made by the venue on September 9, 2026, the upcoming concert featuring rock legends AC/DC has been officially scrapped. The decision follows a severe weather event on September 2 that swept through the region, bringing extreme winds and heavy rainfall that meteorological experts categorized as a 100-year storm.
Kevin Mahoney, a DTN Risk Communicator Team Lead and AMS-certified consulting meteorologist who serves as the on-site meteorologist for Rogers Stadium, pointed to extreme localized weather. According to Mahoney, the site sustained heavy impact from a suspected microburst, leaving portions of the north side seating sections structurally compromised and collapsed.
The venue was set to host its 20th and final show of the 2026 concert season. This milestone followed a busy summer schedule that featured major artists including Bruno Mars, Chris Stapleton, and BTS. In total, the venue hosted 19 individual concerts during the 2026 season, nearly doubling the 12 events produced during its inaugural year in 2025.
City Orders Structural Repairs as Live Nation Files Damage Assessments
Following the storm on September 2, municipal authorities ordered the venue to immediately initiate structural repairs. Live Nation Canada subsequently received a detailed seven-page municipal order outlining the mandatory conditions the facility must fulfill before resuming any public operations.
Live Nation Canada filed an initial damage and repair report on September 8, 2026, with a follow-up status report scheduled for later in the week. Despite these recovery efforts, safety imperatives made it impossible to preserve the tour stop.
“Cancelling a concert is never a decision we want to make, and we know how disappointing this will be for all of us who have been looking forward to seeing AC/DC close out our summer season,” said Wayne Zronik, President of Business Operations at Live Nation Canada, in a public statement. “Safety has to come first. The right decision is to take the time to remove and rebuild the affected parts of the stadium to ensure it is ready to welcome fans next summer.”
Logistical Hurdles and Ticketmaster Refund Procedures
Organizers exhausted alternative options before arriving at the cancellation. According to statements released by Rogers Stadium, administrative teams evaluated potential alternative venues across Toronto capable of accommodating a crowd of 50,000 fans, but no suitable site was found.
Ticket holders do not need to submit manual requests to recoup their losses. Ticketmaster is processing automatic and full refunds to the original method of payment for every ticket purchased for the September 16 event.
The cancellation cuts short the final stretch of AC/DC’s PWR/UP tour. The group’s itinerary included a scheduled performance in Montreal on September 12, followed by a final Canadian date at Winnipeg’s Princess Auto Stadium on September 20.
Engineering Outlook and Next Steps for Rogers Stadium
Engineers completed preliminary inspections of the Downsview Airport lands site in coordination with municipal authorities. Assessments confirmed that the damaged portions of the outdoor temporary venue must be entirely removed and reconstructed. Live Nation Canada emphasized that rehabilitation work will proceed carefully and methodically.
“Our focus is on completing this work carefully, safely and responsibly, so Rogers Stadium is ready to welcome fans back with confidence next season,” Zronik stated. “We’ve had an incredible summer at Rogers Stadium, and while this isn’t how we wanted the season to end, safety for fans, artists and employees will always come before any individual event.”
