abu Dhabi Expands Economic Opportunities on Agricultural Lands with 74 Approved Activities
Abu Dhabi, UAE – A new decision adopted by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, will allow for the practice of 74 diverse economic activities on agricultural lands in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The move aims to diversify income streams for farm owners and bolster the local economy.
The decision, stemming from the work of the Economic Activities Commitee in the farms formed under the direction of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, adds 41 plant production activities, nine support activities for plant production, eight supportive food activities, and twelve supportive industrial activities, alongside activities within the categories of supportive services and entertainment. This expands upon resolution No. 3 of 2023 concerning economic activities on farms, specifically amending Article 2 of Article (5) to reiterate that construction space for these activities must adhere to area limitations prescribed by the relevant emirate authority.
Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al-Amri, Acting Director General of the abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food safety Authority, stated the decision is a direct result of the committee’s efforts, which include representation from the Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. The expanded list of permissible activities is expected to provide farmers with new avenues for revenue generation and contribute to the overall economic diversification goals of Abu Dhabi.
