Abel Ferreira Rejects Tottenham: Palmeiras Manager Stays | Football News

February 16, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Abel Ferreira, manager of Brazilian Série A club Palmeiras, has rejected an approach from Tottenham Hotspur, according to a TikTok video posted by iago (@svgiago) and subsequently confirmed by multiple news outlets.

The north London club reportedly made contact with Ferreira as they search for a new head coach, but the Portuguese manager declined the opportunity. Details surrounding the offer were not disclosed by Palmeiras or Tottenham. News of the rejection surfaced after a period of deliberation by Tottenham, according to reports from Mix Vale and FootballFanCast.

Following Ferreira’s refusal, Tottenham has appointed Igor Tudor as interim coach until the finish of the current season, Mix Vale reported. Tudor’s appointment comes after Tottenham “polled” Ferreira, indicating a clear interest in the title-winning manager before ultimately turning to Tudor.

Ferreira led Palmeiras to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title in 2023, adding to his growing reputation as a successful manager in South American football. Tottenham’s pursuit of Ferreira suggests a broadening of their managerial search beyond European candidates. TribalFootball reported Tottenham’s initial approach to Ferreira.

As of Monday, February 16, 2026, Tottenham has not publicly commented on the reasons for Ferreira’s rejection, nor have they outlined any further plans regarding a permanent managerial appointment beyond Tudor’s interim role.
