A6 Motorway Closed: Truck Accident Causes Major Traffic – Luxembourg

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

A major traffic disruption is ongoing on the A6 motorway near Strassen, Luxembourg, following a collision involving a truck and two passenger vehicles. The A6 has been fully closed since Tuesday morning, and remains blocked as of 7:50 PM local time.

According to initial reports, the incident began when a truck experienced a tire blowout around 10:00 AM, causing the driver to lose control. The truck subsequently collided with a concrete barrier separating the two directions of traffic, resulting in significant damage and the complete blockage of the motorway.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and the truck driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. He sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment after receiving on-site medical attention. Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, though the extent of injuries to their occupants has not been publicly detailed.

Traffic is severely impacted in both directions. Motorists traveling towards Arlon are currently limited to a single lane, resulting in substantial congestion extending back to Cessange. Those heading towards Luxembourg City are being diverted onto secondary roads via the Strassen exit. Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area entirely.

The Luxembourg Road Administration (CITA) has indicated that the clearance and repair operations are expected to take a considerable amount of time. The damaged concrete barrier requires significant reconstruction, contributing to the prolonged closure. As of 8:50 PM, the A6 remains closed, and no estimated time for reopening has been provided.
