Rural‌ Homestead Owner Fined for Employing Teenager Illegally

Klaipėda District, Lithuania - September ‌18, 2025 – A Klaipėda region farmer has been penalized ⁢by the State ⁢Labor Inspectorate (VDI) after a probe revealed the unlawful employment of a 16-year-old boy at a property used for event rentals.⁢ The case ‌highlights ongoing concerns regarding labor law compliance within⁣ Lithuania’s burgeoning rural tourism sector.

The examination, initiated following reports to Lrytas news, centered on activities at a homestead located at Liaunų ‍g. 2, Liaunai village, Klaipėda District. A. Terespolskis,⁢ the property owner, maintained the teenager was employed directly by him, not⁤ by UAB ⁤”Memelio dvaras” (Memel Manor), a company registered at Vilties g. 7-3A in‌ Klaipėda. Terespolskis stated, “That boy didn’t work at ‘Memelio dvaras’ in any way. He worked for me on the farm… I live here, I am registered here, this is my homestead. I rent out my ⁣living ⁤house for events, and this is where my farm is registered.” Though, the ‌VDI determined the work was conducted illegally.

According ‌to public records on rekvizitai.vz.lt,UAB “Memelio dvaras” lists ‍its registration address as Vilties g. 7-3A,⁣ Klaipėda, while ⁢its⁣ website, www.memeliodvaras.lt,advertises events at the Liaunų g.2 location. Further complicating the matter, A. Terespolskis also leads a public institution, “Events Code,” registered at the same address as ⁤UAB “Memelio dvaras” – Vilties g. 7-3A, Klaipėda.

The VDI confirmed to Lrytas that its investigation substantiated‌ the illegal employment of two individuals, including the minor born in‌ 2009, at the Liaunų g. 2 address under the direction⁣ of A. Terespolskis. ⁣

A. Terespolskis now ‌faces an administrative offense protocol under Article 95, paragraph 1 of the Lithuanian Code of Administrative Offences (ANK). Penalties for this ⁢violation range from €2,000 ⁢to €5,000 for individual employers. as the employer in this ‍case is a private individual, only that penalty applies. The⁣ VDI has not disclosed the amount of the final‌ fine levied against A.Terespolskis.
