A.Q. Shipley Named New Cardinals Radio Analyst

A.Q. Shipley Joins Cardinals Broadcast Team

Former Cardinals offensive lineman A.Q. Shipley has been named to the Arizona Cardinals’ radio broadcast team, working alongside veteran play-by-play announcer Dave Pasch and sideline reporter Paul Calvisi. Shipley, who played for the Cardinals from 2015 to 2019, brings extensive experience with the franchise and a deep understanding of the game.

Pasch expressed confidence in Shipley’s abilities, noting his “passion for the game” as a key attribute. He recalled Shipley being a “natural” during a mock broadcast, and while acknowledging the differences between radio and television commentary, Pasch is committed to helping Shipley develop strong chemistry with the broadcast team.

Shipley has already been active in the media landscape, co-hosting a podcast focused on offensive line play and making appearances on “The Pat mcafee Show.” His connection with Pat McAfee dates back to their time as teammates on the Indianapolis Colts.Shipley’s NFL career began with the Cardinals in 2015, reuniting him with head coach Bruce Arians, whom he had previously played for in Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Although he initially hoped to be a starter, Shipley played a reserve role for the cardinals during their NFC Championship season. He became the team’s starting center in 2016 and held the position through 2019, missing only the 2018 season due to an ACL tear. In his 60 games with Arizona, Shipley started 51 times.

He later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, again under Arians, but his season was cut short by a career-ending neck injury. Shipley did, however, earn a Super Bowl ring with the buccaneers that season.

Initially, Shipley envisioned a post-playing career in coaching and served on Arians’ tampa Bay staff in 2021. However, the demands of coaching proved incompatible with his growing family, which includes three children aged seven and younger.

Shipley’s new role in broadcasting allows him to remain connected to the game he loves. He stated, “I love being able to talk football. It’s basically doing exactly what I like to do in terms of a coaching aspect except now it’s in front of people from the media angle.”
