Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Set to Return in New Mummy Film, avoiding Reboot
A fourth installment in The Mummy saga starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz is in development, aiming to continue the continuity established by the first two films. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing, with a script by David Coggeshall. The project seeks to reconnect with early fans of the O’Connell/Carnahan family storyline, a path chosen to avoid the pitfalls of a full reboot-a strategy that proved unsuccessful with Universal‘s 2017 Dark Universe attempt.
Negotiations are underway to secure Fraser and Weisz’s participation, possibly reuniting the duo who headlined the first two Mummy films (weisz was absent from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon emperor). Producers Sean Daniel, also involved in the original films, is expected to return. The announcement has generated excitement among fans of the original Mummy duology.
universal Pictures is also developing a separate Mummy reimagining directed by Lee Cronin, slated for release on april 15, 2026.
