Strike in Southern Lebanon Claims Life

Tensions remain high despite ceasefire agreement.

An Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon resulted in one death and five injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, highlighting the fragile state of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Casualties and Accusations

The Lebanese Health Ministry stated that “the Israeli enemy’s raid on a car on a car in Numayriya, Nabatieh district, led to a martyr and five people were wounded.” The attack occurred in Numayriya, in the Nabatieh district.

The Israeli army claimed the deceased, **Muhammad Shuaib**, was facilitating weapons smuggling into Lebanon and the West Bank.

Ceasefire Under Strain

Since the ceasefire agreement on November 27, Israel has continued conducting raids in Lebanon, particularly in the south. The agreement aimed to end over a year of hostilities that significantly weakened Hezbollah. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has been working to de-escalate tensions in the area (UN.org).

Under the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah fighters were to retreat north of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, leaving the Lebanese army and UN peacekeeping forces as the only armed entities in the region.

Furthermore, the agreement stipulated a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon, although Israel has maintained positions in five locations it considers strategically important in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese Stance

Lebanese President **Joseph Aoun** addressed the complex relationship with Israel, stating that despite openness to a “state of war,” normalization is not part of current foreign policy.
