Riftbound, the League of Legends trading card game, is preparing for the launch of its third set, “Unleashed,” with a host of new mechanics and over 200 new cards designed to expand upon the strategic depth of the game. The set will be released in China on April 10, 2026 and worldwide on May 8, 2026, following a preview season that began March 16 and will continue through March 26.
Building on the foundations laid by the previous sets, “Origins” and “Spiritforged,” “Unleashed” introduces three key new mechanics: Ambush, Hunt, and XP. Ambush allows players to play unit cards at Reaction speed, creating opportunities for disruptive combat tactics on both offense and defense. Hunt, a new ability, is directly tied to the new resource system, XP. Players gain XP by conquering or holding Battlefields, which can then be spent on various in-game effects.
The XP system represents a significant shift in Riftbound’s gameplay, offering players a dynamic resource to manage throughout a match. Kha’Zix, the Voidreaver, serves as an example of how XP can be utilized, with cards allowing players to spend XP to buff units or reposition exhausted allies.
“Unleashed” likewise expands the roster of playable Legends, introducing twelve new cards. Confirmed additions include Diana, Scorn of the Moon, and Lillia, Bashful Bloom. Notably, Master Yi, a Legend from the “Origins Proving Grounds” set, will receive a new Legend card, making him the first character to have multiple Legend representations within the game.
Beyond the new mechanics and Legends, “Unleashed” introduces new token cards, including those that create token Battlefields. Reflections, tokens that duplicate existing Units, will also play a role, adding layers of strategic complexity. The set will also feature the new Ultimate Rarity, a unique variation of Overnumbered cards, with Baron Nashor being the sole Ultimate Rare card in the set, appearing in less than one percent of all booster packs.
Riot Games has not yet finalized preorder timing for Booster Display boxes and Preconstructed Decks, but will update information as it becomes available. Pre-Rift events, offering early access tournaments, will begin April 3 in Chinese language and May 1 in English.
