Apple Leaks MacBook Neo: Specs, Price & Release Date Hints

Apple inadvertently revealed details of a new, lower-cost MacBook model dubbed the “MacBook Neo” on its regulatory compliance website Tuesday, before swiftly removing the listing. The product, identified by model number A3404, appeared in the European EU / UK Declaration of Conformity section, according to reports from MacRumors and 9to5Mac.

The accidental publication has fueled speculation that Apple is preparing to unveil the new laptop as early as Wednesday, March 4th, concluding a week of product announcements that already includes the iPhone 17e, M4 iPad Air, M5 MacBook Air, M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, new Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR.

While the regulatory document itself contained no technical specifications or images, its existence confirms Apple’s development of a new entry-level MacBook, distinct from the existing MacBook Air and Pro lines. 9to5Mac reports that the “Neo” branding signals a departure from Apple’s traditional naming conventions and suggests the new model will be positioned as a more accessible option, potentially powered by an iPhone chip.

The leak follows reports that Apple is aiming to produce a more affordable laptop, potentially targeting younger consumers with a range of color options. The MacBook Neo’s appearance on Apple’s website, however brief, lends significant weight to these claims. Macworld noted the rapid removal of the listing, suggesting Apple was unprepared for the early disclosure.

Apple has not yet commented on the accidental posting or the existence of the MacBook Neo. The company is scheduled to hold a media event tomorrow at 9 am ET, where further details are expected to be revealed.
