European Stocks Plunge: Madrid & Frankfurt Lead Losses After Iran Attack

European stock markets experienced a broad sell-off on Tuesday, with Madrid’s bourse leading the decline, closing down 2.7%. Frankfurt followed with a loss of 2.6%, according to reports from the Italian news agency ANSA.

Paris’s stock index fell by 2.1%, while London closed down 1.2% and Amsterdam dropped by 1%. These latter two markets saw trading bolstered by energy and defense stocks on their first day of transactions following recent events in Iran, though this did not prevent overall declines.

The downturn comes amid fluctuating travel costs between major European capitals. According to rome2rio.com, travel from Madrid to Paris currently ranges from $105 to options taking just over four and a half hours. Flights are available, with Google Flights and KAYAK showing fares starting from $40, particularly on airlines like Transavia France, Iberia, and easyJet. Omio also lists travel options from $40.

KAYAK data suggests that Monday is generally the cheapest day to fly and November the cheapest month, with booking at least 120 days in advance yielding the best rates. The cheapest routes often involve flying into Paris Beauvais-Tille airport, and utilizing budget airlines or accepting flights with layovers.
