The Minnesota Timberwolves officially announced the re-signing of veteran forward Kyle Anderson on Monday, bringing back a player familiar to the team and its fanbase. Anderson, 32, finalized a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies prior to the agreement, according to the Timberwolves’ press release.
Anderson’s return comes at a crucial point in the season for Minnesota, currently fourth in the Western Conference. The Timberwolves anticipate he will be available for Tuesday’s game against the Grizzlies at Target Center, a fitting reunion against his former team. While his immediate role remains undefined, coach Chris Finch may integrate him quickly into the rotation, potentially as the ninth man.
During his previous two seasons with the Timberwolves (2022-2024), Anderson played in 148 games, starting 56. He averaged 7.8 points on 48.6% shooting, alongside 4.3 rebounds and a career-high 4.5 assists. His versatility and off-court leadership were noted as valuable assets during his initial tenure.
Anderson’s journey since leaving Minnesota has been marked by frequent trades. He moved from the Warriors to the Heat, then to the Jazz, and back to the Grizzlies before securing the buyout that allowed him to return to the Timberwolves. Drafted 30th overall in 2014 by the San Antonio Spurs out of UCLA, Anderson has accumulated over 800 games of NBA experience across 12 seasons, also including stints with the Spurs and Grizzlies.
Known as “Slow Mo,” Anderson developed ball-handling skills typically associated with point guards while possessing the size to play as a forward. The Timberwolves’ announcement included confirmation that he will wear jersey number 12.
In a separate move, the Timberwolves adjusted their final two-way contract spot, waiving Jules Bernard after initially signing him last week and instead signing fellow Iowa Wolves standout Zyon Pullin to a two-way deal. The reason for the quick succession of moves was not immediately clear.
