by Emma Walker – News Editor

Eight South Dakota agriculture teachers have been named finalists for the Golden Owl Award®, recognizing their dedication to agricultural education. The South Dakota FFA Foundation, in partnership with Nationwide, announced the finalists, acknowledging their contributions to students and the broader agricultural community.

The Golden Owl Award® is designed to honor educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching, inspire students, and advocate for the importance of agricultural education. According to the South Dakota FFA Foundation, the award provides funding to help finalists advance their agricultural programs.

The South Dakota FFA Association represents 6,515 agricultural education students across 112 chapters statewide, according to the organization. The association plays a vital role in developing future leaders in agriculture, forestry, and natural resources.

The South Dakota FFA Foundation supports these efforts by providing financial resources and sponsorship opportunities for FFA chapters. The foundation focuses on developing agriculture leadership, citizenship, and cooperation among students, while similarly preparing them for careers in the food, fiber, and natural resources industries.

During National FFA Week, the South Dakota FFA Association highlighted the importance of agriculture to the state’s economy and the role of young agricultural leaders. Supporters were encouraged to contribute to the SD FFA Foundation through the #GiveFFADay campaign, as noted on the organization’s Facebook page.

Details regarding the specific identities of the eight finalists and the amount of funding awarded to each program have not yet been publicly released by the South Dakota FFA Foundation.
