Inman and Moundridge secured decisive victories in Class 2A girls sub-state basketball play Thursday, setting the stage for second-round matchups next Tuesday. Inman dominated Marion with a 49-9 score, while Moundridge defeated Solomon 84-10. Remington also advanced, defeating Sedwick 43-13, and Hillsboro triumphed over Wichita Classical 60-20.
The upcoming second-round games will spot Moundridge hosting Inman and Remington hosting Hillsboro. These contests will determine which teams advance further in the state tournament.
In a separate Class 2A girls sub-state basketball Group B game held at Elbing, Berean Academy defeated Belle Plaine 37-22. Conway Springs secured a win against Republic County with a score of 45-13, Salina Sacred Heart overpowered Herington 62-11, and Bennington defeated Wichita Central Christian 43-9. Adrienne Mullins of Berean Academy led her team with 16 points, supported by Fiona Morgan with 8 and Ella Veer with 7. Taryn Bohannan was the leading scorer for Belle Plaine with 7 points, and Addison Skaggs contributed 6.
Tuesday’s schedule also includes Conway Springs hosting Berean Academy and Sacred Heart hosting Bennington, completing the second round of Group B games.
On the boys’ side, Moundridge achieved a significant win, improving to 20-3 with an 83-22 victory over Herington. Easton Shahan led the Wildcats with 15 points, followed by Kaden Godwin with 12, Josh Koehn with 10, Raymond Kauffman with 9, Jesse Lutz with 8, and Layton Schmidt with 8. Berean Academy also advanced, defeating Hillsboro 64-35, with Jace Unruh scoring 20 points, Nolan Sweazy adding 15, and Wyatt Friesen contributing 12. Koehn Janzen led Hillsboro with 17 points.
In other boys’ games, Conway Springs defeated Marion 56-43, and Republic County defeated Whitewater-Remington 47-37. The Berean sub-state boys semifinals will feature Berean Academy against Conway Springs and Moundridge against Republic County. Solomon defeated Sedgwick 49-26, Wichita Classical defeated Wichita Central Christian 57-34, Salina Sacred Heart defeated Belle Plaine 74-29 and Inman lost to Bennington 39-38 in Berean sub-state A boys quarterfinal games Friday. Sacred Heart will play Bennington and Wichita Classical will play Solomon in the semifinals on Wednesday.
