Charleston “Brother” Burnett III, 25, was fatally shot on Florence Avenue in Macon, Georgia, on February 21, 2026 – the same street where a stray bullet grazed his head when he was 13 years aged.

Burnett’s death is part of a surge in gun violence that has gripped Macon in recent weeks. Between February 21 and February 23, four people were killed and at least thirteen were shot in separate incidents across the city, according to reports from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and local news outlets.

The violence began shortly before 12:30 a.m. On February 21, when deputies responded to a domestic incident in the 3300 block of Sharon Drive. A man attempting to enter his estranged wife’s home was shot, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Davia Lee Evans Jr. Was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property and family violence battery.

Later that evening, at 6:58 p.m., Shavis Adams was shot in the 1500 block of Florence Avenue and later died at a local hospital. The investigation into Adams’ death remains ongoing.

On February 22, a 17-year-old was shot while walking along North Atwood Drive in the 1600 block and transported to the hospital by private vehicle, listed in stable condition. Shortly before midnight, gunfire struck a home in the 700 block of Key Street, injuring a 7-year-old boy, an 18-year-old man, and a 24-year-old man. All three were hospitalized in stable condition.

The series of shootings continued around 1:29 a.m. On February 22, when shots were fired into a home in the 1200 block of Holt Avenue, striking a 17-year-old boy.

Bibb County Sheriff David J. Davis stated that deputies and investigators are working to solve each case. The Sheriff’s Office has not released information connecting the shootings or identifying potential suspects in the majority of the incidents.

The recent violence follows a period of heightened concern over shootings in Macon. Thirteen people were shot over the weekend of February 20-23, 2026, according to reports. In the nine days between February 13 and February 22, seven people died as a result of gun violence in Macon and Bibb County.
