Singer-songwriter and producer Underscores, born April Harper Grey, will release her third studio album, U, on March 20 via Mom + Pop, the artist announced today. The album follows 2023’s Wallsocket and builds on the momentum of previously released singles “Music,” “Do It,” and “Advise Me (U Want It).”
In a statement, Grey described the album as “Music for malls, airports, hotels, supermarkets. I wrote these songs for U.” According to a press release, at least one track on U was composed although Grey was in the Mall of America.
U features nine tracks: “Tell Me (U Want It),” “Music,” “Hollywood Forever,” “The Peace,” “Innuendo (I Get U),” “Lovefield,” “Do It,” “Bodyfeeling,” and “Wish U Well.”
Underscores, who began releasing music on SoundCloud at age 13, rose to prominence with her debut album, Fishmonger, in 2021. She subsequently toured with 100 gecs and completed a headlining tour in 2022. Her musical style incorporates elements of hyperpop, pop-punk, dubstep, and indie pop, drawing early influences from artists like Skrillex and 100 gecs, and more recently, Madonna, Imogen Heap, Bruce Springsteen, and Sufjan Stevens.
“Music” was ranked at No. 45 on Pitchfork’s list of The 100 Best Songs of 2025.
U is currently available for pre-order at Rough Trade.
