Cristiano Ronaldo Buys Stake in Spanish Club Almeria | La Liga 2

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football star, has become a co-owner of Spanish second-division football club UD Almería, acquiring a 25% stake through his sports investment company, CR7 Sports Investments, it was announced on Wednesday.

The move marks a significant step for the 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward, signaling his intent to remain involved in football beyond his playing career. According to a statement released by CR7 Sports Investments, the strategic investment reflects Ronaldo’s long-term commitment to football club ownership. “I’ve always wanted to contribute to football outside of playing,” Ronaldo said in the statement. “Almería has a solid foundation and clear potential, and I want to help the club grow.”

Almería was acquired by a Saudi investment group last May. The addition of Ronaldo as a co-owner builds on that investment. The club currently holds a record of 14 wins, 6 draws, and 7 losses, positioning them in third place with 48 points, and in contention for a playoff spot in the Segunda División.

Rubi Almería, the club’s manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “This is very good news for the team, the city, and the region,” he said. “We are very happy and welcome Cristiano. It will be a great help to our club.” When asked about the possibility of Ronaldo potentially playing for Almería, Rubi responded, “That’s something you’d have to ask Cristiano, but it would be something very special and wonderful. If he wants to continue playing, any coach would welcome him, without a doubt.”

Founded in 1989, UD Almería has experienced periods of success, including appearances in Spain’s top-flight La Liga. The club was relegated to the Segunda División after the 2023-2024 season, finishing sixth in the 2024-2025 season and securing their place in the league.
