Korean actress Nam Bo-ra, the eldest of thirteen siblings, has revealed her intention to pursue a natural birth, sparking a family disagreement, according to reports surfacing Friday.
The declaration came during filming for the upcoming episode of KBS 2TV’s “Fresh Release, Pyeonstorang,” where the actress is documenting her pregnancy. Nam Bo-ra expressed her desire for a natural birth, a method prioritizing maternal safety although minimizing medical interventions such as epidurals, episiotomies, enemas, and shaving. Her mother immediately responded with a firm “No,” while her siblings, Nam Se-bin and Nam So-ra, questioned what a “natural delivery” entailed, prompting Nam Bo-ra to explain the process.
The concept of naturalistic childbirth, as described by Nam Bo-ra, focuses on minimizing medical intervention. Following the announcement, an impromptu family meeting was convened to discuss the matter, with Nam Bo-ra outlining her reasoning and seeking her family’s support. However, her mother and siblings voiced strong opposition, citing concerns for her health.
The actress’s pregnancy has already been a topic of discussion within the family, with earlier reports highlighting her intense food cravings. Footage from “Pyeonstorang” shows Nam Bo-ra preparing and consuming a large meal, leaving her mother and siblings astonished by her appetite.
During a studio recording for “Pyeonstorang,” chef Sunye shared her own experiences with natural birth, revealing she delivered all three of her children at home using the same method, a revelation that reportedly surprised those present.
Nam Bo-ra had previously indicated a desire for a large family, stating she would like to have at least three or four children if possible.
