A viral Facebook post falsely claiming actor Adam Sandler endorsed the “Make America Trumpless Again” movement has been debunked, highlighting the increasing prevalence of AI-generated misinformation in the political sphere. The post, which appeared on the Facebook page Celeb’s Talk, alleged Sandler was actively supporting the movement and its efforts to challenge candidates aligned with former President Donald Trump.
However, the claim is demonstrably false. According to reports, Celeb’s Talk is known for disseminating fabricated news and utilizing AI-generated imagery. The false post quickly gained traction, amassing over 530,000 reactions and 17,000 comments before being widely identified as misinformation.
The incident sparked debate among social media users, with some recognizing the hallmarks of AI-generated content even as others initially believed the claim. “Here’s AI generated content. It makes me question why fact checking was only a thing during the pandemic?” one Facebook user commented, reflecting a growing concern over the difficulty of discerning authentic information online.
Sandler’s past political affiliations are somewhat complex. While he has never publicly endorsed Donald Trump, reports indicate a historical connection to the Republican Party. The Wall Street Journal and other news outlets have reported Sandler was a registered Republican, and he notably performed at the 2004 Republican National Convention. He also previously donated to Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Despite these past associations, Sandler has also demonstrated a willingness to satirize Trump. In 2019, during his hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, he performed a song in the Weekend Update segment that contained pointedly critical lyrics directed at the former president. The song included lines such as, “Trumpa, Dumpa / I make-a the wall / I playa the golf / And they take-a the fall / Trumpa Dumpa / They afraid to impeach / I get to make–a the wall / Putin make me his b*tch.”
Actor Rob Schneider, a vocal supporter of Trump, shared in 2024 that he felt “blacklisted” in the acting industry due to his political views. He also revealed that Sandler had offered him support during this period, stating, “He doesn’t necessarily have to agree with me, he supports me for me and I think that he was able to see through all the c***, and to not have to worry about the right or wrong, or if he should be outspoken or not.”
