Romania Earthquakes: 4.5 Magnitude Tremor in Vrancea & Multiple Aftershocks

A series of four earthquakes struck Romania on Thursday, culminating in a 3.3 magnitude tremor in Tulcea County, the National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP) reported. The most recent quake occurred at 8:52:46 PM local time, centered 48 kilometers south of Tulcea, 62 kilometers north of Constanța, and 69 kilometers south of Izmayil, Ukraine.

The sequence began with a 4.5 magnitude earthquake in Vrancea County at 7:21:51 PM local time, at a depth of 107.9 kilometers. The INFP stated the quake was of “medium” intensity. The epicenter was located 39 kilometers west of Focșani, 72 kilometers east of Sfântu-Gheorghe, 76 kilometers north of Buzău, 83 kilometers south of Bacău, 86 kilometers southwest of Bârlad, and 88 kilometers east of Brașov.

Earlier on Thursday, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Vrancea seismic zone at 5:37:25 AM, at a depth of 119.9 kilometers. This quake was centered 31 kilometers west of Focșani, 61 kilometers north of Buzău, 80 kilometers east of Sfântu-Gheorghe, 90 kilometers southwest of Bârlad, 92 kilometers east of Brașov, and 96 kilometers south of Bacău.

The first tremor of the day occurred at 12:31:54 AM, also in the Vrancea seismic zone near Buzău, registering a magnitude of 2.7 at a depth of 124.6 kilometers. The INFP reported this quake was located 49 kilometers northwest of Buzău, 64 kilometers southeast of Sfântu-Gheorghe, 65 kilometers east of Brașov, 65 kilometers west of Focșani, 66 kilometers northeast of Ploiești, and 96 kilometers northeast of Târgoviște.

As of Friday morning, no reports of damage or injuries have been released by Romanian authorities. The INFP continues to monitor seismic activity in the region.
