Thailand’s meteorological department is forecasting a shift in weather patterns across the country, with conditions ranging from decreasing rainfall and rising temperatures in the north to increased showers and rough seas in the south. The forecast, issued Friday, February 27, 2026, warns of potential hazards including thunderstorms, strong winds, and hazardous conditions for maritime travel.
The northern region is expected to see a reduction in rainfall alongside warmer daytime temperatures. However, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds remain possible, particularly in the provinces of Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from a low of 16 to 23 degrees Celsius to a high of 30 to 36 degrees Celsius, accompanied by southwesterly winds of 10-15 kilometers per hour.
Northeastern Thailand faces a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms with localized strong winds, especially in the provinces of Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Low temperatures are predicted between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius, with highs reaching 32 to 36 degrees Celsius. Southerly winds will blow at 10-20 kilometers per hour.
Central Thailand will experience hot daytime temperatures with a 30 percent probability of thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly in the provinces of Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. Minimum temperatures will be between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. Winds will be southwesterly at 10-20 kilometers per hour.
The eastern region is also forecast to experience a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms with gusty winds, primarily in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius at their lowest to 32 to 37 degrees Celsius at their highest. Southerly winds will be present at 10-30 kilometers per hour, and the sea will remain relatively calm with waves under one meter, though waves exceeding two meters are possible during thunderstorms.
Southern Thailand (eastern coast) will see an increase in rainfall, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, particularly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Temperatures will range from 21 to 25 degrees Celsius to 32 to 36 degrees Celsius. Westerly winds will blow at 15-30 kilometers per hour, and the sea will have waves around one meter, potentially exceeding two meters during thunderstorms.
The southern (western coast) region anticipates a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, mainly in Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 32 to 36 degrees Celsius, with westerly winds at 15-30 kilometers per hour. Sea conditions will be similar to the eastern coast, with waves around one meter and potential for higher waves during storms.
Bangkok and surrounding areas are expected to be hot during the day with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25 degrees Celsius to 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, with southwesterly winds at 10-20 kilometers per hour.
The meteorological department also noted that dust levels across upper Thailand are currently low to moderate due to moderate air circulation and the possibility of rainfall in some areas.
