Italian Advertising Tax Credit 2026: How to Apply & Requirements

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Italian businesses and non-profit organizations will be able to apply for a tax credit for incremental advertising investments starting Monday, March 2, 2026, the Italian Revenue Agency announced. The application window, initially slated to open on March 1st, was adjusted due to the date falling on a Sunday.

The tax credit, originally established by Decree-Law No. 50 of 2017, aims to support the Italian publishing industry. It applies to investments in advertising campaigns on daily and periodical newspapers, both in print and online formats. To qualify, advertising spending must increase by at least 1% compared to the same media investments made in the previous year. Since 2023, the tax credit has been set at a flat rate of 75% of that incremental spending, capped at an annual limit of 30 million euros, in accordance with European Union de minimis aid regulations.

The application process will be conducted entirely online through the Revenue Agency’s dedicated digital services. Access requires valid credentials such as SPID (Public Digital Identity System), CIE (Electronic Identity Card), CNS (National Service Card), Entratel, or Fisconline. The application form and detailed instructions are available on the Agency’s website. Businesses can similarly utilize authorized intermediaries to submit their applications.

Applicants will be required to submit a subsequent declaration in early 2027, confirming the actual implementation of the advertised campaigns and verifying that all eligibility criteria have been met. This declaration will serve as a validation of the initial claim. According to the Agenzia delle Entrate, the final deadline for applications has been extended to April 1, 2026, a change announced by the Department for Information and Publishing.

The Italian Revenue Agency’s 2026 fiscal calendar indicates a concentration of tax deadlines in March, including VAT payments and other communications, potentially creating an administrative burden for businesses. The agency’s website lists numerous deadlines for March 2nd, 16th and 31st, covering various taxes, declarations, and communications.
