Drummondville’s Jeune Chambre de Drummond (JCD) is playing a key role in bolstering youth entrepreneurship within the region, supported by municipal recognition of its impact. The organization, which currently comprises approximately 300 young business people and companies in the MRC de Drummond, provides networking, development and training opportunities.
The Drummondville city council has publicly acknowledged the JCD’s contributions, stating that its actions not only stimulate local entrepreneurship but also attract and retain young professionals, fostering a culture of engagement and leadership. This support underscores the municipality’s commitment to cultivating a vibrant business environment for its younger demographic.
The JCD offers a range of programs designed to support young entrepreneurs, including entrepreneurial competitions. The annual Élan CAE Drummond competition awards over $35,000 in prizes to recognize innovative initiatives from young entrepreneurs in the region. Currently, a public voting component is underway, with the company receiving the most votes winning the “Coup de coeur Les Fromages de Béatrice” prize, valued at $3,500.
Beyond competitions, the JCD facilitates professional development through training programs, networking events, and opportunities for members to gain practical experience. Members can participate in committees, serve on the board of directors, and contribute to the development of services offered to other members. The organization functions as a catalyst for career advancement, offering a platform for professional growth and skill consolidation.
The JCD’s activities align with broader initiatives aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship in the Francophone community. The Fédération des jeunes chambres de commerce francophones (FEJECF) has been developing expertise in youth entrepreneurship since 2015, including the creation of training materials and support tools for young entrepreneurs.
Separately, the JUCD organization offers the “JEUNESSE ACTIVE” program, which focuses on supporting young people who wish to pursue professional autonomy whereas adhering to Christian values. This program provides training in technical skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, alongside job coaching and networking opportunities.
